Enterprise forum organised by DRC ministry of SME and Chamber of Commerce

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

👋 Mbote!

Being a strong advocate and a living example of youth entrepreneurship, we joined the 'Enterprise Challenge' conference promoting SME and youth entrepreneurship, hosted by Ministry of SME and Chambers of Commerce on 11th of March, 2020 at Kempiski Hôtel, Kinshasa.

There were some thought provoking speakers who outlined challenges new businesses face to survive namely; lack of legal framework, the lack of information and difficulty accessing credit, lack of training, to name a few. Challenges we at Fusion Cacao know only too well!

We were overwhelmed by the great contrast between the potential of the DRC vs. current undeveloped entrepreneurial landscape. Indeed, the DRC has 80 million inhabitants of which 60% are made up of young people, a great asset in a largely liberalised economy. Despite these considerable advantages, the country has only nearly 10 thousand registered businesses, one business for 8 thousand inhabitants and 0.0004 businesses per km2.

If we compare to Nigeria who create 75,000 companies in a year, while the DRC hosts 7,515 - a real challenge to take up.

As a result, the Congolese Chambers of Commerce launched 'Enterprise Challenge', a platform to recognise and promote SMEs and youth entrepreneurship.
